A person's energy life force is sensitive and responsive to negative physical and emotional changes. Blockages can occur when dealing with stress and when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life energy force. Negative thoughts and feelings often manifest itself into physical problems. Physical problems can cause disturbances and often cause worries, stress and emotional distress which also causes energy blockage. A person's subconscious mind and energy force are dynamic and interconnected without the person being consciously aware that it's happening. Energy healing therapies such as Reiki relax and clear disturbances and blockages allowing the vibrating energy forces to flow freely in a healthy and natural way.
A Reiki practitioner works to feel and detect if any energy flow is blocked in you. The practitioner channels (not their own) energy to unblock, rebalance and keep the energy flowing freely in you.
Is Reiki a religion?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. Anyone from any religious background can learn and use Reiki. You do not have to believe in Reiki in order for it to work for you. Some people, however, choose to incorporate their own religious believes into their Reiki. That is one reason why many people have different ideas about what Reiki really is, how it is used, and what it stands for.
Reiki healers do establish 5 spiritual code attributes:
Just for today do not worry
Just for today do not be angry
Honor your parents, teachers, and all the elders
Learn how to earn your living honestly
Be kind to your neighbors and in every living thing
Why should I try Reiki?
The reason most people try Reiki and love Reiki is the feeling of overall bliss that comes from a session.
Are there any side effects?
No. Reiki is harmless and produces positive results. Reiki is a simple, safe and natural method of laying hands on people in order to force energy into them. It is using a person's energy and energy that is coming from the environment around them. Energy is channeled through the practitioner administering the Reiki and not from the practitioner own energy.
You can also self-administer it in order to heal yourself or even use it on plants and animals.
Who should get Reiki and how do I know if it is right for me?
Anyone of any age and in any health state will benefit by using Reiki. Reiki feels good. Reiki is recommended for people who feel perfectly healthy, to maintain an energetic balance which can help in the prevention of illness. It is also recommended as a treatment before and after surgery. It is helpful during illness, and can be used along with other conventional treatments. All energy healing therapies are meant to compliment conventional medical treatments and NOT replace them.
How is Reiki performed?
The Reiki technique is administered by the Reiki Practitioner or you can learn to self-administer Reiki on yourself. Like other energy healing therapies, Reiki is easy to learn because it's built into us (everyone) and everything around us naturaly.
A Reiki session is non-manipulative. Through loose clothing, the practitioner channels Universal Life Energy through their hands, helping to direct energy where it is needed. The practitioner's hands ("Laying on Hands") are placed in different patterns lightly touching various parts of the body or hover a few inches above the body's energy centers and clearing blockages that prevent good health. These areas include around the head, shoulders, stomach, legs, and feet. Although either hands on or hands hover technique is effective, I prefer hands on when I perform Reiki on myself. It's best to perform Reiki in a quiet and relaxed environment. Soft, soothing music and lavender aromatherapy will feel you totally relaxed and ready for a Reiki session.
How long is a session (or treatment)?
Each session can last from ten minutes to more than an hour, depending upon available time. Each session is intended to be deeply relaxing.
What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable. You will stay fully clothed and be asked to remove things such as belts, jewelry and eye-glasses.
What can I expect to feel during and after a Reiki session?
Whatever you feel is just right for you. Reiki is very relaxing and comforting. For some, a treatment feels like a wonderful energy is flowing around and through them. Others experience a deep meditative state, some fall asleep, and others become recharged. Some describe the feeling of giving and accepting Reiki energy healing as a tingling sensation (pins and needles), coolness, or even throbbing or numbness. Each individual (and each session) is different and will perceive the results in various ways than their neighbor.
During a session, I feel various sensations in different parts of my body such as lower back, legs and feet. The sensations do not hurt and pass quickly. Some people don't feel anything during a session. Each person and each session differs from each other.
Do not try to concentrate or force it to happen. Simply relax and allow Reiki to happen naturally on its own.
After a Reiki treatment, people often feel refreshed, relaxed, clear and more content. Physical pain is often minimized or gone.
Do not be alarmed if you feel that Reiki is not working for you or if you are not experiencing the same feelings or results as someone else. Each treatment session is unique and thus the results will differ from session to session and from person to person. You should share your experiences but not compare your effects to that of others.
Is energy ever depleted?
Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's energies are never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive treatment. Because of this, giving a treatment always increases one's energy and leaves one surrounded with loving feelings of well-being.
Can Reiki ever cause harm?
The impressive thing about Reiki is that it is completely harmless but still has great healing power. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself accordingly to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never needs to worry about whether to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful. In addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner is not in danger of taking on the karma of the client. Because the practitioner is not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of the way and allow the person to heal themselves.
Is Reiki popular?
Reiki is rapidly becoming more and more popular around the world. Countless people of all different backgrounds and skills from all over the world have taken some type of energy healing therapy training. Reiki is the most popular among them.
Its success is based on the patient's own individual case. It is quite easy to administer and accept Reiki as an alternative medical treatment. Reiki can only help by aiding traditional medicine because it works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Some employers are now interested in introducing relaxation techniques such as Reiki in the workplace. Reiki can often be the perfect solution to this problem.
According to the American Hospital Association, in 2007, over 800 American hospitals offered Reiki as part of hospital services nationwide. The Reiki programs that are offered in hospitals are often administered by hospital staff members who have taken Reiki training and are sometimes complemented by lay practitioners who have taken a hospital orientation class. The popularity of Reiki in hospitals has been largely driven by requests from patients and by nurses and doctors who have experienced its value. They report that Reiki reduces stress, decreases the amount of pain medication required, improves sleep and appetite, and accelerates the healing process. It has also been reported to reduce many of the unwanted side effects of radiation and drugs, including chemotherapy.
Although it is gaining accreditation, most companies still rarely cover it for medical insurance.
Reiki is a complementary therapy meant to work with and support your regular ongoing physical, mental, and emotional medical treatments. It's NOT meant to replace any of your regular medical treatments. Continue to consult and work closely with your medical doctor.
