Self-care, Self-pampering, and Self-indulgence

What is the difference between self-care, self-pampering, and self-indulgence?
People often believe that self-care, self-pampering, and self-indulgence are interchangeable. That is for the most part incorrect. Self-care is the quality of care taken by an individual towards their own person health care needs.

Self-pampering has to do with the act of indulging or gratifying a desire, but the act of self-pampering is quite different when it is imbedded within self-care and part of Physical Wellness. In fact, learning how to pamper and take care of yourself is essential to your health and well-being.

There is nothing wrong with pampering yourself periodically if you have the time and can afford these activities. Pampering yourself, in general, doesn't have to be expensive or complicated, and there are also a lot of inexpensive ways to pamper and treat yourself to proper self-care without breaking the bank.

Self-care and self-pampering can be done in ways that are not, in any way, self-indulgent or self-absorbed.
Self-indulgence on the other hand has a lot to do with excessive or unrestrained gratification of one's own appetites, desires, or whims. Self-indulgence is the practice of allowing yourself to have, or to do something special that you like very much, often something that you should not have or should not do. A person who is self-absorbed, only caring about ones’ own feelings, appetites and desires, is selfish and narrow-minded.

Self absorption is defined as caring only about ones’ own self and ones’ own activities, and not showing interest in the rest of the world. An example of being self-absorbed is when you go on and on to your friend about your problems without asking how she is doing.
